Do you lift?
Do you understand what is important when lifting?
Do you know how to transfer those skills of lifting to your patients or clients?
If the answer to these questions is a resounding YES! Then we would love to collaborate with you and embrace your skills to help people with musculoskeletal pain and in particular low back pain which effects 1 in 7 Australians and remains as the countries most burdensome health condition. There is much work to do. Success will come through implementation of a paradigm shift rehabilitation methodology that is very simple. Teach people with joint related pain how to move their joints optimally again.
This very simply clinical model places Modern Society as the over arching factor that corrupts movement proficiency or creates the disease of Movement Dysfunction. This then flows on to accumulative biomechanical stress which drives biological inflammation and subsequent pain, disability and accelerated pathological structural change, which is very distinct to normal age related degeneration.
Industry wide this approach is mostly ignored because of a number of reasons.
Teaching Functional Movement Therapy is hard. It is hard work for the therapist and the patient. But the rewards are worth it. You cannot deliver Functional Movement Therapy on a couch or with manual therapy. Functional Movement Therapy is not related to exercise, fitness or strength. It is 100% related to upskilling our patients movement quality.
Teaching someone to move well takes time and often people expect a quick fix or immediate symtom relief like they would get from a soothing massage. This is not Movement Therapy. In fact when people begin to move and activate muscles that have been inactive for years they may describe soreness. This is normal and reflects their underlying Movement Dysfunction. They need to be supported to continue to move.
Delivering Functional Movement Therapy requires expert clinical support. We are here to provide that for you. Specialist skills to deliver symptom based therapy in conjunction with cause based Movement Therapy is often required for many patients with a long history of chronic back pain.
Many therapists dont belive that back pain can be cured. This is wrong. The ideology is reflected in terms such as NON SPECIFIC LOW BACK PAIN which means we dont know what is causing your pain. Just learn to live with it and manage it with symptom based approaches. It switches off the motivation to cure the disease of Movement Dysfunction which causes back pain symptoms.
Many therapists themselves do not know how to lift. They have never lifted a barbell, swung a kettlebell or performed dumbbell thrusters under intensity … where technique is critical. We Have. And we know that performance is relative to the individual. Technique matters in every day life activities too. Life is a constellation of movement tasks and they should be performed well. Consider it to be the Sport of Life - be Good at it!
If you understand these very simple and indisputable fundamental musculoskeletal principles then you have the potential to be a great Functional Movement Therapist and you have a skill set that can help countless people.
Please take the time to get in contact with our executive team and undertake in one of our courses and examinations (Practical and Theory) that we deliver around Australia.
